Autumn is Here

My name is Autumn Betenkamp, I'm a sister, daughter, and friend. I would do anything for the ones I love :) Frankly some people would say I'm a bit too friendly, but it's better to be friendly than friendless ;) I'm also a bit of a dork, but all I can say to that is oh well!

Continuation (Oliver:P)

Oliver closed his locker and leaned against it again, he was sure she’d would have walked away at this point. He wasn’t being very cordial if anything he was trying to be an asshole but she was still being nice. “No you’re not wasting my time, I currently have a lot of time on my hands. Emily left me for the glamour that is Paris, France.” He picked up his backpack and slung it on his shoulder “What do people usually do at school? I mean besides attempting to learn.”

Autumn started walking, and she stayed right by his side after he had put his backpack on his shoulder. “Well first of all, even if Emily did leave you, don’t you have like a ton of other people to hang out with? You don’t seem like the type of guy that people would just leave alone.” She said casually holding the left strap of her backpack and readjusting it to her comfort. She then bit her lip and thought for just a moment about his question. “That’s pretty much what school is for. And another place where people of our age can immaturely start rumors and drama,” She sighed. She then turned her head to look up at him, because he was a bit taller than her, “You should know that by now, shouldn’t you?” She asked.

I swear if Elizabeth doesn’t stop talking about the new dress she got, I’m going to kill myself

Mitchell, come on now! You just don’t know what it’s like to be a girl… You and Seth are just unknowledgable. ;)

Autumn sat at the edge of her bed and looked at her clock. She saw it was 6:20 and sighed. She ran her hands through her red-ish hair that she inheireted from her mother and finally stood up to start getting…

Autumn looked at him slightly confused at his mixed signals. The first sentence he said being truly genuine, and then the second one just sounded totally concieted. She pursed her lips before he finally said, ‘I’m sorry I guess you could say I’m not used to talking to nice girls.” A smile spread across her face and she laughed lightly.

“Well, Oliver, let me tell you one thing,” She started still smiling and looking up at him. “You certainly weren’t wasting my time, and I only have to be at class in ten minutes so I have plenty of time.” Autumn finished pulling her backpack onto her shoulders. “I feel as though I’m more likely to be wasting your time, since I’m, you know, a nice girl.” she grinned to him and pushed a loose strand of hair behind her ears.

“Fine, I guess I’ll admit I like Emily.” He admitted, screwing the cap on of his juice before raising his eyes to look at her. “Well, maybe. I don’t know.” He said, doubting himself. “I mean, I care for her a lot. I just… I think I need to see her again before coming to a decision like that.” Luke swallowed the lump which had formed in his throat following Autumn’s question. “I do. I miss her like crazy.” He admitted with a light smile before dropping his gaze to the food before him.

Autumn covered her mouth with her hands and started giggling. She tended to act childish sometimes, but it was just in her nature, and Luke knew that fully. Autumn leaned forward and a piece of red hair fell in her face. She tucked it behind her ear and finally with wide eyes she whispered quite loudly, “You like her!”

Stating the obvious was a strong point and she leaned back with a smile. “Just be careful when you make your decision. Because it seems as though she’s into you too. Well… I mean… If she kissed you,” Autumn said contently taking a french fry. “I just don’t want to see you hurt Luke.” She said leaning forward again and putting her hand on his forearm in a caring way. “Take it in strides.” She finished rubbing his arm a bit and then leaning back.

Luke shook his head at the comment. “I do like her, but I don’t know. We’ve been friends for far too long so I’m not sure if I should ruin that to try and have a relationship that might fail in the end.” Luke answered, thinking logically. Part of him wanted to go out with Emily but there was a lot at stake by doing so. “Trust me, I know what I’m doing. But like I said, I don’t think a relationship would be good for me right now. I need to focus on other things and hang out with friends.” Luke added, motioning to her and implying Charlie and others.

Autumn finally stopped pushing the issue. “Alright,” she started with a small smile. “You know what’s best for you and that’s all that matters.” she said sighing and pushing her lunch tray aside. “You do have a good point with the friendship thing, just don’t let that stop you. You don’t know if it will fail.” Autumn quickly added on with a shrug of her shoulders looking down at her hands. “It’s just… I know people aren’t supposed to rely on relationships for happiness, but everyone just seems happier when they have someone, that’s all.” she said looking at him and shrugging again.

Luke scoffed at Autumn’s idea of what he should be doing, compared to what he was doing. “Girls will always be there. If I get in a relationship or not anytime soon, then so be it, but Senior year happens only once. I want to be able to enjoy it from a power position.” He smirked as he walked behind Autumn in line and got his own food, following her to an empty table and sitting down across from her.

He glanced up at her when she asked how his ‘girl situation’ was. Taking a sip from his juice, he swallowed before speaking. “I don’t know if I want to be in a relationship with anyone right now.” Luke said, still feeling a bit horribly about what happened between him and Emily on Christmas eve before she left for Paris with her dad. He could tell Autumn wasn’t going to let him off the hook so easily, but they’d known each other for quite some time and he knew he could trust her.

“After Em and I exchanged presents, we kind of kissed.” He admitted, clearing his throat after speaking. Emily and him had been best friends since grade school and he hadn’t considered entering a relationship with Emily until Christmas when he got caught up in the moment and kissed her. “I mean, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about it considering she left to Paris for two weeks with her dad without saying goodbye the day after Christmas.”

“See! No teenage guy doesn’t have a girl he at least likes!” Autumn stated with a slightly victorious smirk after listening to the whole thing, knowing that she could joke with Luke like that before getting serious. “Now,” Autumn started putting on a serious expression. “Do you think you think you really like her, or were you guys just caught up in the moment? You said it yourself.” she said reaching down to her inner-psychologist. “I almost think this is the perfect time for you to make up your mind. You can tell whether you have feelings for her. Are you missing her?” Autumn asked raising her eyebrows with a curious look.

“Fine, I guess I’ll admit I like Emily.” He admitted, screwing the cap on of his juice before raising his eyes to look at her. “Well, maybe. I don’t know.” He said, doubting himself. “I mean, I care for her a lot. Autumn sat at the edge of her bed and looked at her clock. She saw it was 6:20 and sighed. She ran her hands through her red-ish hair that she inheireted from her mother and finally stood up to start getting ready.

Quickly she showered and dressed, but didn’t bother to eat…

Autumn looked down at her feet and immediatly her face seemed to match the color of her hair. With a little bit of a giggle she looked up at him and didn’t try and hoped the charm a few people said she possessed was working now. “My name is Autumn, Autumn Betenkamp.” She said with a small smile reaching her hand out to meet his. She shook it gently and looked into his eyes for just a moment.

“You have really nice eyes.” She said without thinking. After realizing what she said she pulled her hand away and went to reach for her backpack. She pulled it and realized that the left strap was caught in her locker door.

“I- I’m usually not this ditzy.” She said with a weak smile as she finally pulled the strap out of the locker. She couldn’t believe it, she had a school girl crush and she was ACTING like a school girl. This was absolutly ridiculous.

Luke shook his head, laughing lightly after Autumn spoke. “Everything’s fine. I guess I’m just a bit cranky from missing my daily cup of coffee this morning.” He answered, popping his neck by tilting his head to the side and walking by her side away from his locker. “I have fun.” Luke protested, “It’s just a different kind of fun than the type you’re into.” He patted his book within his backpack, non-verbally telling her that reading was his source of entertainment. “Plus, I have to stay involved in school. I can’t expect to run for Degrassi student body president next year and win without shaking some hands and kissing some babies.”

”What?” Autumn laughed looking at Luke questionably. “Listen! I know you want to be Student Body president and all, but you’re a teenage boy.” She stated shaking her head. “You’re supposed to be thinking about kissing teenage girls, not babies.” She joked rolling her eyes.

Autumn made her way to the cafeteria with Luke right at her side. Before she said another word she waited till they both got their food and sat down at a table. “I feel like I haven’t talked to you in forever… How is your whole girl situation anyways?” She asked holding an apple in her hand. When she finished her question she took a bite and looked at him intently for an answer.

Luke and Autumn had been friends for a while now. Since grade 9 that is, but their friendship was on and off just depending on the circumstances of their lives. Sometimes it seemed more like a friendship of convinence than anything, but she did enjoy Luke’s company.

Luke scoffed at Autumn’s idea of what he should be doing, compared to what he was doing. “Girls will always be there.  Autumn furrowed her brow a bit as she watched her friend. She could tell he was stressed just by his body language and she waited for him to respond. When he said that she frowned a bit and sighed. “Why? Is everything alright?” She asked.

Before he could even respond they started walking and she smiled to him. “You need to stop doing so much stuff.” She said to him tousling his hair playfully. “That’s why you’re so stressed all the time Guthrie,” She started. “Have some fun. Or did you forget what that word means?” She finished with a grin.

Luke shook his head, laughing lightly after Autumn spoke. “Everything’s fine.
